The former site of the Divine Word Mission Hall – Societas Verbi Divini (SVD), located on the corner of QuFu and ZheJiang Roads, is kitty-corner to St. Michael’s Cathedral (Catholic Church) in Qingdao Old Town just up the hill from ZhongShan Road.The former site of the Societas Verbi Divini (SVD) in Qingdao Old Town, designed by Father Franz of the SVD, began construction in 1899 and was completed in 1902. The Societas Verbi Divini (SVD) actually began sending missionaries to China’s Shandong Province as early as 1882. The SVD’s aggressive methods were part of the chain of events that led up to the Boxer Uprising in the late 1890’s.
青岛斯泰尔修会圣言会会馆旧址建筑沿两条道路展开，分高低两个入口。 会馆的东北侧外墙饰有文艺复兴风格的八角窗。建筑物两端均设计有外突部分，沿路展开的立面中段，设计了局部突显的山花，上端有复杂的曲线装饰图案，为建筑平添了几分华贵。该建筑建造于1899年至1902年，由圣言会天主教神甫佛兰茨.白明德设计。
