Located in the middle of ZhongShan Road, in Qingdao Old Town, is the former site of Qingdao’s first branch of The Bank of Communications China (BOCC). This four story building, with offices on the second and above floors, is constructed of reinforced concrete over a solid base of Mount Lao granite. The facade is dominated by six eleven meter Corinthian columns with four central rounded pillars that open the main entrance west to ZhongShan Road. Designed by Zhuang Jun of China, the building was under construction between July, 1929 until its completion on March 16th, 1931. The building occupies a ground space of 1,371 square meters with a total floor space of 3,814.76 square meters. It has one basement which was used during times of war as a bomb shelter for Qingdao’s elite. Currently it is used as a business hall for China Construction Bank (CCB), ZhongShan Road Branch.
青岛交通银行青岛分行旧址位于中山路东侧,占地面积1371平方米,总建筑面积3814.76平方米。平面近似矩形,地上四层,地下一层。主入口临街设置,沿台阶十级以上直达一层营业大厅,大厅面积约200平方米,高8米。二层以上设办公房间。中心部位设计为标准的科林斯式高大立柱,直通三层,一排6根,中间4根为圆柱,高约11米。整个建筑为四层作为完整屋顶部分处理,底部设以花岗岩石料实墙。整组建筑比例和谐、立面庄重、风格沉稳且典雅。该建筑由中国建筑设计师庄俊设计,始建于1929年7月,建成于1931年3月16日,采用钢筋混凝土结构体系。现为中国建设银行青岛分行营业部。
